[SAME-DAY MINI-SERIES] #2 – How many adults and children in PEI got a mRNA needle?
The first thing to know about the attached population stats by age groups is that the numbers are from the 2021 census. PEI’s population has increased since that time, quite significantly in fact, as you can see from the chart I attached in my previous post, the #1 in this little series.
Because vaccine data is presented in percentages. without presenting the actual number of people receiving needles by age group, to get a better sense of how many people those percentages actually represent it is helpful to cross-reference the percentages with the actual number of people.
I want to focus on children in the “0 to 4 years and 5 to 9-year-old groups.
Given that there has been negative growth from natural birth rate in pei, if we assume the increase is primarily with immigrant children since 2021, but we’re looking at now is probably similar by way of children born in PEI as far as the numbers in 2021 and 2023.
So, the total number of children in the total population is 6,750 [0-4 yr olds] + 8,085 [5-9 yr olds] for a total of 14,825. The claim provincially is that according to the most recent data showing all Islanders who received at least 1 mRNA needle (up to December 3, 2023), there were 152, 821 Islanders who had received at least 1 mRNA needle by December 3, 2023 (when they stopped tracking cumulative vax data) in the 5+ category, whereas the number for all Islanders including 0-4 is 154,706.
The means the answer to the question I posed at the outset for this episode in the mini-series – how many children under 5 received a mRNA needle? – is: 1885.
Going back to my calculated total number of children 10 yrs and under 14,825, and 1885 is 12.7% of 14, 835, so it appears that roughly 15% of Island children 10 and under got a needle.
The question I really want to answer – to see if we’re smartening-up any as a population – is “How many Islanders and children went for the most recent “Booster” that Dr. Morrison did a lot of public and media work pushing in September?” See ya soon…
