It’s “Islander Day”
This past week I calculated that King and his Executive Council borrowed at least 325 million so far this fiscal year [starting April 1, 2023], and, over the last 9 months, issued new spending with special warrants [which means “over-budget” spending] of even more than that!
Meanwhile, Islanders are hurting heavy and hard… paying through the nose at the pumps, home heating oil, at the grocery store, at the bank with mortgages, and with our Island utility providing them electricity.
They’d like to know from King why he thinks there’s reason to celebrate.
It’s upsetting to many to watch Premier King and his Ministers toast one another as they frame an article from the Guardian to hang on the Cabinet meeting room wall with a graph of the latest polls showing they’re still on top, smiling ecstatically, patting backs, drinking, and spending our Island and freedom away like the proverbial drunken sailors they are, plundering and pillaging while in port, but always at the ready to lift anchor at any time without a care and sail away!
Premier King hasn’t been much of a socialite lately if you’ve noticed.
He probably thought he’d better make an appearance online this morning thinking that a holiday to celebrate PEI would be a “safe space” for him to have one of those now increasingly-infrequent ‘engagements’ with Islanders [rare as owl sightings actually… who, who, who knew, “Its all about People” would become, “time to fleece the sheeple!”
Me.
I knew..
King has only slightly more capacity to be Premier leading a provincial jurisdiction through these dark times than Justin Trudeau has to be PM leading our country… let’s just say you have to dig a long way down to get to where they both show up on the graph!
I don’t doubt that a lot of other Islanders knew they were getting a puppet with King as well…. he was, after all, picked” by a back-room, which he admits, in fact, in the PC leadership, he was the only one “picked,” and the team doing the picking was headed with Senior Partner from Stuart McKelvey Law Firm, Margaret-Ann Walsh.
In fact, King’s campaign manager was Margaret-Ann Walsh, daughter of infamous PC Leo Walsh, from the Pat Binns era. She was actually on the selection committee I met with when I decided to run, but then resigned to run King’s campaign.
How convenient.
Walsh is mentioned in the lawsuit currently before the PEI Supreme Court against Dennis King, Alan Campbell, Chris LeClair et al., by the way.
According to the court filing, she allegedly picked up the bill for a meeting that took place at Sims restaurant, a meeting that took place before a scheduled golf game, and also that infamous secret meeting with the whole slew of Insiders meeting, allegedly, to discuss an online casino scheme at a private cottage in Rustico at night.
Oh what a tangled web Denny!!
But he is the Premier after all,
and it is Islander day. So….
Premier’s message to Islanders on Islander day:
“Happy Islander Day to all those who love PEI from near and far!”
I’m sure King then held his breath as he waited for responses.
In fairness, there’s lots of responses wishing him well although I didn’t see anything what a great job he’s doing, and that he and his family enjoy the day. Fair enough. I don’t wish anything but good on anyone, and also hope everyone enjoys, with true joy that is, their day today.
I just wish Islander day wasn’t turning into “Island-slipping-away-day” because of the lack of leadership, so if King and his family have a good day I hope it strengthens him to get back to work to do something in the leadership department tomorrow morning.

They would suggest the Premier’s ‘safe spaces’ with Islanders are disappearing faster than the arguments claiming to support man-made climate change!
